Qualcomm

Background: In 1990, Boatracs became Qualcomm’s exclusive domestic maritime distributor for its OmniTRACS® system.

Challenge:
To provide the commercial maritime industry with reliable, cost-effective communications services including vessel tracking.
Solution: Since the alliance was created, Boatracs has developed a fully integrated suite of maritime information solutions, all backed by the Boatracs 24/7/365 Network Operations Center.

Result:
Today, in addition to providing round-the-clock technical and customer service support, Boatracs provides emergency response and disaster back-up services, messaging relay, mapping and positioning, and a variety of subscription services. These fully integrated services can dramatically increase operational efficiencies for fleet managers.

Stratos
Background: Boatracs is a strategic technology partner with Stratos for the Bandwidth Efficient Satellite Transport (BEST), a unique virtual private network solution via satellite which provides cost savings and greater flexibility.

Challenge:
To accommodate customers’ day-to-day telephony and LAN requirements for all remote sites, with the occasional need for greater “bandwidth on demand” from particular sites.
Solution: Custom system solution that enables Inmarsat-B users to increase their maximum throughput to 256 kpbs while maintaining guaranteed channel availability on a global basis.

Result:
Prior to the alliance with Stratos, existing Inmarsat-B high-speed data users were limited to a maximum of 64 kilobytes per second to and from mobile terminals. Now they can achieve up to 256 kbps from the mobile, and up to 512 kbps to the mobile. Military Sealift Command chose BEST to provide worldwide IT21 C41 capability to its fleet.

Xantic
Background: In 1998, Xantic formed a non-exclusive partnership with Boatracs to cooperate in the marketing of communications services and management software to the U.S. workboat market.

Challenge:
To provide workboat operators outside of North America with reliable and cost-effective communications to exchange messages, e-mail, and data files.

Solution: Using Inmarsat services such as Mini-M as a platform, Boatracs built its VComm IP® software to provide for seamless bidirectional transfer of data files, as well as providing integrated GPS capture and position reporting to shore, intelligent file queuing and compression,. As well as eliminating many call management concerns typically associated with fleet communications.
Result: Companies operating in North America are now able to transfer the same data transfer techniques and proven system software to their vessels operating overseas. With VComm IP , airtime charges and overall costs are substantially reduced over traditional methods with the same equipment.
