SAN DIEGO, Calif. - March 27, 2002
- Boatracs®, a business unit of
Advanced Remote Communication Solutions,
Inc. (ARCOMS) (OTCBB: BTRK), announced
today that it has successfully launched
new Application Service Provider or
ASP service for ENSCO. An ASP is a
web-hosted application, which is accessible
to all ENSCO employees and business
partners with a browser, an ID and
a password. This ASP hosts ENSCO’s
on shore TigerDen suite of vessel
and fleet management software. ENSCO
has used TigerDen on shore as a management
link to their boats for several years.
Each boat uses Tiger software onboard
to record a wide range of vessel activity
information. Captains use Tiger to
create masters’ logs, record
crew changes, buy groceries, report
accidents, order parts and schedule
maintenance. The boat information
moves seamlessly via Boatracs Omnitracs
satellite system to shore where it
is parsed into a database.
As part of its ongoing effort to
enhance and improve IT services,
ENSCO is relocating its database
and support of the product to its
vendor site. As an Application Provider,
Boatracs will supply an Internet
address to any ENSCO employee that
has a need to access the system.
Boatracs provides the platform,
database maintenance, communications
interfaces and vessel support from
its offices in San Diego, CA and
Gulfport, MS.
According to Tom Chapman, Director
of Information Services for ENSCO
in Dallas, "This system greatly
improves our on going maintenance
cost, reduces support time and increases
availability of information to our
employees."
According to Charles J. Drobny
Jr., Chief Operating Officer for
Boatracs, "This is a logical
step for a company like ENSCO that
has deployed a mature vessel and
shore information system like Tiger
and TigerDen. Many of the benefits
of the ASP are obvious. The boat
operations staff does not have to
spend their time maintaining the
database or the communications connections.
These tasks will now be handled
by product knowledgeable professionals
who are right next to the very machines
processing the data. Some of the
benefits will soon be realized when
the next versions of TigerDen go
into service. Those can be developed
and deployed at a much lower cost
and in less time."
