Boatracs® Names Dave Cook as Chief Technical Officer

SAN DIEGO, September 22, 2003—Boatracs, the leading provider of integrated information solutions for the global maritime industry, has named Dave Cook as Chief Technical Officer. Formerly VP of Software for SABIA, Inc., Cook brings over 22 years of experience in software and systems development for the San Diego communications and high-tech sector, specializing in system architecture, real-time and mathematical software, and network applications.

With an extensive background in embedded, Windows, Macintosh and Linux environments, Cook holds US patents for software-related applications. At SABIA, Cook led a team that developed a novel software-based approach to neutron/gamma ray material analysis for the coal and cement production industry. Prior to joining SABIA, Cook served as CTO for WaveWare Communications. Before that, he spent several years as an independent software developer, after starting his career in commercial and government communication firmware and systems at Linkabit Corp. and Pacific Communication Sciences, Inc.

Cook’s notable projects include a highly accurate satellite orbital mechanics package for the Air Force emergency command post aircraft; computer-generated holography for a laser micro-machining system used by Cray Research; the OS kernel for a successful line of voice/data multiplexers; precision telescope control and beam steering for a large laser system; the core operating environment for the first CDPD modem; and the first working Bluetooth wireless data implementation for a PDA.

“Dave is a true software innovator, who understands how to combine real-time data collection and current Internet technologies into new industrial applications that provide substantial cost savings and operational benefits. His unique perspective will serve us well as Boatracs continues to expand, and we are excited he has joined our team,” said Roland Melzer, Boatracs’ Chief Operating Officer.
