Job Description:

As a Software Engineer you will be involved in all aspects of product development for software applications serving users of Boatracs satellite communications and positioning systems. Boatracs operates satellite communication systems for the maritime industry maintaining a 24/7/365 operation that customers rely on for their livelihood. You will design and build features in multiple Boatracs products including online mapping and messaging interfaces and user-facing business applications.

Your role includes prototyping, designing, coding, documenting, testing (unit and integration) and deploying operational systems. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously. Boatracs has multiple product development initiatives and requires a thoughtful and disciplined approach to product development efforts. You will work in an environment where both speed and quality of work are required and where individual contributions are highly valued but never at the expense of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Software Development: Your primary responsibility is to develop features for Boatracs applications – including web based interfaces and client applications, both desktop and mobile. You will write server-side and client-side code for these applications and will also design and build developer APIs. You will need to be flexible as the company determines the software strategies that bring the greatest value.

Qualifications:

• BS in CS or Engineering plus 3 years of hands-on programming experience
• Significant web application development experience with .Net using C# or VB.Net
• Clear understanding of general web application security concerns including Cross Site Scripting (XSS), SQL Injection, etc.
• In-depth knowledge of multi-threaded and event-driven programming
• Adept with version control systems such as Subversion or Mercurial
• Experience working with JavaScript, AJAX and CSS in a multi-browser environment
• Experience building user interfaces using frameworks like JQuery and ASP.NET MVC
• Solid SQL database experience (Microsoft SQL Server preferred)
• Understand how to write testable software

Job Description:

As a part-time Software Tester you will contribute to the quality of Boatracs software products by thoroughly testing new features and by conducting regression tests on both web based and client user interfaces. Boatracs operates satellite communication systems for the maritime industry maintaining a 24/7/365 operation that customers rely on for their livelihood. You will help to ensure the proper functioning of the software systems that support this network.

Duration and scheduling of testing time is somewhat flexible but is expected to be 10 to 20 hours per week.
